As Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of BeyondMissing, Inc., a national non-profit organization, Christine Abela demonstrates her long-standing commitment to children, families and communities. Since March 2003, Ms. Abela has contributed her enthusiasm, passion and characteristic energy and has provided a wealth of business management experience including the management of people, projects, budgets, government grants and contracts.

In the course of her work with BeyondMissing, Ms. Abela has ensured good stewardship of the non-profit’s $2 million in federal, state and charitable income. She designed, implemented and maintained business processes and administrative procedures in the areas of accounting, finance, program management, and technology integration. Ms. Abela joined the Board of Directors of BeyondMissing in April of 2005.

Ms. Abela is a graduate of The State University of New York at Albany. Her work experience began with a boutique investment advisory firm, Wood Island Associates, Inc., in Marin County, California. Her position with Wood Island Associates, allowed her to fully develop an understanding of accounting controls, financial statement preparation and oversight, program compliance and reporting, as well as commodities and financial exchanges. In 2000, Ms. Abela’s experience took a new direction. She began working with an Internet start-up, San Francisco based EPIT, Inc., which deployed one of the first Internet based financial exchanges for the almond industry.

Ms. Abela entered the non-profit sector in 2002. She has been a volunteer for several local and national non-profit organizations and she has consulted with non-profits such as the prestigious RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim which benefited the Special Olympics of Northern California and Marin General Hospital Community Relations which brought healthcare related and educational events to the residents of Marin County.

In 2003, she joined child safety advocate Marc Klaas at BeyondMissing and assisted in the administration of program services. BeyondMissing introduced America’s law enforcement community to its first universal, Internet based platform to create and distribute missing child flyers.
